I was looking for dessert in the area and found this across The Byrd Theater. Located in Carytown, Bev's Homemade Ice Cream offers ice cream, coffee, and some baked goods. I tried the mango sticky rice (gelato) and raspberry pineapple (sorbet). They were bland for me. I decided on black raspberry. It was very good. Creamy, fruity with just the right amount of sweetness. White chocolate peppermint mocha was great for holiday vibes! Service was good too. Giving it a 4/5.
My husband and I love Bev's homemade ice cream. The staff are warm, friendly, and competent. The interior is lovely, pink walls, with paintings and photographs adorning those walls. Patrons can sit at tables or couches that are situated at the back of the shop. I enjoy the chocolate chip mint. The chocolate chip mint at Bev's is white not green. I was told that there are no artificial ingredients in their ice creams. Apparently the green used in chocolate chip mint is artificial coloring. Who knew? I just thought mint was green. I have also tried chocolate, raspberry chip, and a seasonal flavor, pumpkin. During our visits there, My sweetheart sampled chocolate, strawberry, black raspberry, and pumpkin. A few days back we enjoyed a new taste experiment. We never knew you could order a milkshake with two flavors of ice cream. At Bev's you can. I mixed chocolate and chocolate chip, while my husband tried chocolate and black raspberry. Bev's also features a coffee, tea, and hot chocolate bar and a cafe menu with brownies and pastries. We love it that Bev's is women owned and run. Go women!
I am hooked on Bev's, specifically their Oreo and cookie dough ice creams and their vanilla milkshakes. Their milkshakes are perfectly thick and just all-around lovely, and they don't wreck my stomach, which is an amazing feat too. The folks who work at Bev's hustle. Don't be surprised by a line, as it's very popular and centrally located in the heart of Carytown across from Byrd Theatre. Prices are reasonable for the quality. I need to branch out to try more flavors. They also serve coffee products, which is great. Overall, I'm a big fan and will be back soon enough.
Bevs is in a perfect location in Cary town. Perfect place to stop after eating lunch or dinner at one of the nearby restaurants. They had a wide variety of ice cream flavors and quite a few specialties. I had a root beer float which was great! I also got one of their apple cider Whoopi's pies and it was amazing! They had a good amount of seating inside and service was very friendly.
The black raspberry ice cream from Bev's is amazing! We now get it by the quart! I believe New England style ice cream is now my favorite type of ice cream! I also think the folks who work there are super friendly and never skimp on those scoops! Highly recommended delicious ice cream you'll need for these hot summer days!
I came here for a free scoop of ice cream for National Ice Cream day, curtesy of Yelp! I tried the cookies and cream and Heath bar as they provide you with two scoops. It wasn't too crowded at all and I was able to walk straight to the counter and place my order. Service was great as well as fast. I've never tried ice cream here before, but now that I have I will be adding it to my list of places to visit when a sweet tooth craving hits.
Bev's Ratings: 4/5 Food: 4/5 - I was hanging out with friends, and happened to stumble across this ice cream shop while we were walking in Carytown, and we all wanted to try it out! All yummy flavors, and Bev's is definitely a top spot for ice cream in RVA. The ice creams there are homemade, high-quality for sure. Please check out my descriptions below for a detailed review or go to my IG account (noraeatsgood) for more fun content. - Coffee [GET]: I love this one, and as a coffee addict, I approve! The texture was on point, creamy and smooth with a nice consistency. It was not too sweet with a strong coffee flavor. You can tell that its a good quality ice cream, handcrafted with love. This may look simple, but this one will surprise you in a very good way as long as you enjoy coffee flavored things. - Ube [GET]: Their weekly rotating flavor. I am a sucker for anything Ube, so I had to try this one. The Ube flavor was prominent and subtle, and you can taste the Ube chunks in it. I just wished that the flavors could be stronger, and I felt like this one was a bit on the sweeter side. Regardless, if you never had Ube better, I definitely recommend this one. It is creamy, but not as creamy as the coffee one I have. Ambiance: 4/5 - A small local ice cream shop located in Carytown, RVA. Exterior is small but in bright pink color, so you can't miss it. Interior is larger than expected, spacious and clean. There's a plenty of seating available, and a great stop to relax and take a break from all the walking and shopping. Price: 4/5 - We got the kiddo size for both flavors, and it came up to be around $8 after tax. I think the kiddo size is more than enough for one person, so the portion given is more than fair. If you want to share with others, then definitely get a size bigger. Service: 4/5 - The staffs working behind the counter are nice and friendly. I asked to try some flavors, and they gladly provided us with some huge scoops of samples. They are fast and efficient, despite that there's a line, it moved fairly quick. BLUF: A local business in RVA selling creamy, thick, and super yummy ice cream. You can't really go wrong with any of the flavors here. I would say those, flavors are more classic and down to earth compared to the ones at Scoop. They have milkshake, gelatos and sorbets too. I will return again for their mocha flavored ice cream.
I stopped here while exploring carytown one evening. Very busy but moves quickly. I got a taro ice cream brownie sundae. I wasn't sure how the flavors would go together but it was incredible. The ice cream was so smooth and creamy and the brownie may have been the star of the show even though it's an ice cream shop. Definitely stop here for a delicious treat on your next trip to Carytown
